Thermography
Thermography
Dr. Silverman works with Peter Hopkins a licensed thermographer who is available for thermography studies. Peter travels all over Southern California. He travels to the horse and performs this non-invasive diagnostic tool to detect injury sites before they become large lameness issues. In preparation for the scan, each horse needs to be carefully groomed, worked for 20 minutes, two hours prior to the exam. Then they are left to recuperate in a shady spot until your appointment. The camera registers minute changes in skin temperature and conveys this into a color-encoded photograph. It can detect temperature differences of less than one-then a degree. Each shot is then entered into a special computer systems, which formulates them into a comprehensive report. The uses are endless: pre-purchase examinations, saddle fit, a training aid to avoid injury, hoof balance, tendon injuries just to name a few.
