Lameness/Soundness Evaluation

Lameness/Soundness Evaluation

Every lameness exam is tailored to the specific needs of the horse depending on the history, presentation and clinical findings. You can expect Dr. Silverman to palpate the horse’s body and limbs, observe the horse at a walk, trot and canter, examine the feet and utilize hoof testers, perform multiple limb and joint flexions, nerve and/or joint blocks if indicated. Most veterinarians work with a combination of nerve and joint blocks to work up a complex lameness, but this can vary depending on the case. A full lameness exam including all the necessary blocks can take from 40 minutes to up to several hours.
