IRAP Therapy

IRAP Therapy

IRAP, Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist Protein, therapy is a cutting edge technology that uses the horse’s own blood to produce a serum product that blocks inflammation in an osteoarthritic joint. Dr. Silverman will pull a 50ml blood sample from your horse into a specialized tube, containing etched glass beads, that must be put into an incubator within 1 hour of the draw. After 24 hours, the sample is spun and processed, resulting in the serum-based product to be injected into the affected joint. The volume of IRAP produced from processing is ~20cc, but may vary, depending on the horse. Samples not used immediately may be kept frozen for up to a year.
